Turkey rejects all of the charges against ottoman empire genocide.

Turkish Author faces Jail: Wrote an novel about the subject of the Ottoman Genocide.

Will the EU accept Turkey into its ranks? When it censors its own nationalists from their expression of Historical information. Is this a way for the Turkish government to sugar coat the censorship and redirect that focus towards something else?

Armenians worldide have been petitioning various political leaders to uncover the truths about the Ottoman Empire. Turkey still rejects calling it a Genocide.

Turkish University plans on having a discussion on the subject of the Mass Killings of Armenians. "Will it actually happen?" Or will it be controlled and maintained like many religious leaders do. To "Keep the Image Alive and protect it no matter what it takes."

My grandfather walked acrossed Turkey and China wearing a dress and pretending to be a woman to get sponsored by the Red Cross and taken on a boat to San Francisco registered as a butcher to pay his way. In Sf he found some family and started his legacy. I am glad he made it. His wife was taken to a concentration camp in Turkey and she chose to grasp the hands of her 2 sons and jumped off a railroad bridge on the way to certain death.

My family history stops where my grandfathers' father is concerned. The records were destroyed.

well as it has been said in blackadder
Love thy neighbor...unless they are turkish.........I think you probably know the rest rofl...
I dont know I mean they can sugarcoat it all they want the truth is still out there.

Perhaps the only thing more appaling

Than the treatment of the Armenians by the Turks, is the "world-at-large's" willingness to never educate their youth about it. I imagine it being akin to nobody ever bringing up "the" holocaust.
Even in some islamic societies, where education is dismally funded, they learn more about the subject than the Americans.
I think that Turkey should have to 'atone' for it, the same way the Germans have before they can have international acceptance. But I dobout they will.
After all, 'History is written by the winners'.
Have you seen the movie Ararat?

Hi,
No I haven't seen the movie Ararat: I remember seeing movies in the Armenian Club in Fresno as a child. Depicting the genocide with not much sound. Pretty much the movies were reel to reel black and white. Pictures of women who were buried up to their necks and picnic baskets hiding their faces while their crazy grandmothers acted like they were having picnics to distract the turks. The grannys were killed thus the grandaughters were too.
My granny shared stories with me I can't say they were all true. Traditionally ARmenians were considered people of the mountain who worshipped the sun. (This of course would be the AR in the word Armenia inverted to RA. But of course this is before they went orthodox even almost coptic/christian.

I've taken a recent interest in Armenia. To the point of potentially adopting someone from there.

Adoption is a wonderful thing! I'm strongly in favor. The movie is graphic, and I might describe it as traumatizing, particularly if you don't know what you're watching. But then, I'm a softie.

Here's to the strength and courage of our ancestors that made the transition at such great cost.

The US refuses to pressure Turkey because of its strategic value in US interests in the Middle East. It given Israel whatever they want because they are the watchdog for US foregin policy in the region, but completely ignores the Armenians. This is the bottom line of the "Truth and Justice For All" hypocrisy of this country.

I was told the Armenians were considered the Ethopians of the Middle East. But when my family talked about the "Old country." The images were that the family circuit was very important.

I recall in the media during Clintons reign, that the Armenians pressured them to create a genocide day. April 24th is the day Armenians honor their ancestors without govt support. The Clintons did not go for it. At the time, there was the threat of Osama waving over their heads.

Armenia was known for its cogniac, beautiful women, family circuit, rich foods and its trade skills. It was from what I understand a "Crossroads." between the various religious cultures that lived on its 4 borders.

Seems a shame to denounce the idea of genocide. I mean how can families be linked beyond 4 generations. Without the records. It sucks.

HUGS By the way! OXOXOXO Happy Equinox

LOL I love the Dog God. I Wrote about this a while back in my LJ.

I took on the name Anahit for a bellydance nickname while back. Its hard to pronounce.
Anna Heet is how I pronounce it. Would be easier if I could read the name written in Armenian script.

Anahit (Artemis) - The goddess of fertility and birth, in early period she was the goddess of war. By the 1st c. BCE she was the main deity in Armenia.

Hugs!

In all likelihood turkey entering into the European Union will at least be a minor disaster in several ways which builds up to a massive problem.
Their treatment of people and the l;ack of human rights in the area means that well frankly in some way that european nations will be siding with for instance their treatment of prisoners which is abysmal.
Then their economic situation.
Right now more and more people are willing to go to Turkey on holiday but their own national economy is the pits.
ERgo they will be a mayor draw on european funding..
Then the question is very much is Turkey not really an middle eastern country instead of a european one?
I personally think it is and has no rights to claim being european.
Maybe it's time to be elitist and close the doors this way.
Let them prove they can run their own country in a way the european union approves off before they even get the time of day.
Personally I don't think they stand a snowballs chance in hell
And hope to god they don't as well.
We have enough countries using our resources without many of their own to go add more misery to the ranks of the European Union.
